A YOGA studio, which a string of famous people backed to stay in Primrose Hill, will be moving out of the area following “a long, hard battle”.

Triyoga, which opened in Erskine Road in 2000, became popular with celebrities Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law and Jade Jagger.

But last year planning chiefs approved a redevelopment which would turn its building into flats and offices. Now, its founder, Jonathan Sattin, has confirmed it will be moving to Jamestown Road, in Camden Town.

Triyoga had strong support from more than 1,700 people and a glittering array of high-profile celebrities, including Sir Paul McCartney, retail guru Mary Portas, actress Sadie Frost and television chef Jamie Oliver and his wife Jools, when it faced the loss of its home.

Mr Sattin, who at one time planned to take Camden Council to a judicial review, said: “I love Primrose Hill, I wanted to stay in Primrose Hill and I am sorry we can’t stay where we were. But this is not in our total control.

“The landlords will develop that site. It’s a shame but that’s their intention. There was no guarantee over how long we could have stayed there, even if we’d gone to court. It would have been maybe nine or 12 months.”

Mr Sattin said the new Triyoga building, in an old piano factory in a courtyard behind Oval Road, Gloucester Crescent and Jamestown Road, will have “lots of natural light” and will be “slightly bigger than the old building” but with the same class schedule and teachers as before.

“I like to think we’re moving to Primrose Hill East rather than to Camden Town, because it is only an eight or 10-minute walk across the canal,” he said. “But it’s amusing trying to find a building in Primrose Hill these days. It’s a relief to finally find somewhere to call home, and I’m hoping we’ll be here for at least 15 years, hopefully much longer.”
