• THANKS for publishing my letter about drab and depressing Highgate’s Pond Square, (Heart of village needs some TLC, February 25).

I walked through it again this week in brilliant sunshine and, since I was last there, by coincidence and to my amusement, the whole vast expanse has been newly tarmacked over. I don’t claim any causal influence!

However, the treatment doesn’t begin to address the core cri-de-coeur of my letter: Pond Square could and should be treated creatively as a green, biodiverse exemplar.
