Why not give patients a choice?

Thursday, 11th March 2021

• I HATE to fly in the face of general opinion, but I am all in favour of private companies providing services to the NHS.

My family have all had good service from the NHS and everyone appreciates the hard work done to save coronavirus patients.

However, when it comes to non-urgent matters it is the same old story of long waits with things getting lost in the system.

The last time I had a scan, paid for by the NHS but done by a private company, I shot though the system. There are some things the NHS does well and other things at which the private companies excel.

I think it is time the government tried more experiments and moved to a mixed economy. Why not give patients a choice?
