COMMUTERS are reporting “travel chaos” in Euston this evening as the train station is closed due to fire and roads are snarled up after a motorbike crash.

A blaze broke out alongside the tracks in South Hampstead this afternoon, causing all trains in and out of Euston to be cancelled.

Meanwhile two motorbikes collided in Euston Road, leaving one rider in hospital with what police said were “injured not thought to be life threatening”.

It lead the southbound carriageway to be reduced to one lane, causing rush hour traffic to grind almost to a halt.

MP Helen Jones, who was heading back to her constituency in Warrington, tweeted: “Chaos at Euston. Now on a train from King’s Cross to Leeds. Hope I can get across the Pennines.”

A spokesman for Network Rail said: “No trains are running in or out of London Euston due to a line side fire near South Hampstead which has damaged signalling equipment. This led to the evacuation of the station.”
