• IN response to Jonny Bucknell’s letter on the subject of the Centene takeover of GP practices, (Why not give patients a choice? March 11).

Dear Jonny, you are not “flying in the face of general opinion”. You have just missed the point, the whole raison d’être of an entire ethos!

The National Health Service was set up to encompass those in society who do not have a choice, so putting us all medically on an equal footing.

That was its revolutionary beauty. That is its social beauty, the reason it is the envy of the rest of the world.
