Scrutiny? So what about the Tories and the Covid contracts?

Friday, 19th March 2021

• CLLR Oliver Cooper’s joint call for scrutiny of Camden expenditure as essential “to maintain our democratic procedures” would be more credible if he was also calling out his Tory government colleagues to explain the mega-million pound personal protective equipment and other contracts handed out without scrutiny or transparent tendering to often-unqualified companies during the Covid-19 crisis, (Scrutiny is essential for local democracy, March 11).

Millions, if not billions, of pounds have been squandered on inadequate equipment, failed systems and private consultants, much of it channelled to firms given “fast-track” access to ministers or Whitehall departments, and all of it scandalously evading any of the democratic scrutiny and accountability that Cllr Cooper says is so important in Camden.

Where is his condemnation of this?
