Giant litter bins

Litter bins ‘an astonishing blunder’

• THE gigantic litter bin enclosures that have appeared all over Regent’s Park and Primrose Hill are an astonishing blunder.

Hardly smaller than beach huts, they could scarcely be more visible if they painted them fluorescent pink and put a searchlight on top. Did no one think to install one or two prototypes to see what the general reaction was?

They are not even very practical. The slot for rubbish is some 1.6m (5ft) from ground level, difficult to reach for small children or anyone in a wheelchair.

The best thing the Royal Parks management could do would be to scrap the enclosures. The bins themselves, painted dark green, are nowhere near as intrusive.
