O2 shopping centre site Finchley Road

The O2 centre’s redevelopment will have a huge impact on the people living all around the area

• CAMDEN Council launched a consultation last week on the criteria it will use to assess any planning applications for the O2 shopping centre site off Finchley Road – its “Supplementary Planning Guidance”.

We already know that the owners of the site, Landsec, are looking to knock down the O2 centre and Homebase, and to build 1,800 to 2,000 flats.

This will be a huge development that will go on for years and have a major impact on people living all around the area.

Camden has only given residents until April 6 to comment on their draft planning guidance.

There are no online public meetings, no leaflets to residents, and no plans to reach out to young people who will be most affected.

It’s less than six weeks, when we are all still in lockdown and have other things on our mind.

Camden should extend the consultation until the end of May so that there can be exhibitions in community centres and libraries after April 12, and more time for residents to have their say.
