Open all of the playgrounds

Thursday, 4th March 2021

• THE playground in Primrose Hill is partially open. There is no information as to why it is closed. We parents assume it is because of Covid-19. It is illogical.

This partial closure does not ensure children are spread out, quite the reverse. The result is that the remainder of the playground is more crowded than it would be otherwise.

In addition this is an accident waiting to happen as children wriggle under the loose metal walls that surround the central area. A parent of average size would struggle to fit underneath the said metal walls!

Neighbouring boroughs Westminster and Barnet have not closed parts of their playgrounds. Neither, I am reliably informed, has Haringey.

Why, or perhaps who, deems this selective closure of certain pieces of playground equipment necessary?

Perhaps a representative from Camden Council will respond to this letter with an explanation. Camden has some of the most deprived children in Europe.

Whole body movement or physical play is essential for the development of fine motor skills. Open all of the playgrounds, please.
