It’s been a long winter in Queen’s Crescent

Thursday, 9th January

• IT’S certainly been, and continues to be, a long winter here in Queen’s Crescent. Business in shops is significantly reduced and market traders are very dissatisfied.

Since August we have been subject to deafening noise from contractors and simultaneously, deafening silence from the six Labour councillors in Haverstock and Gospel Oak wards.

When the contractor left in mid-December we were finally able to get full view of the first part of the “regeneration” of the “public realm.”

During the £650K “worth” of “consultations” residents were adamant as to what they wanted. Proper, safe surfaces and paving stones, no more gigantic puddles and no seating, due to the flats above.

In four months what has been achieved? Some giant imported granite squiggles and tarmac throughout. For whose benefit is this exactly?

Since the contractors went for their Christmas holiday weeks ago, no signs were left for pedestrians and cyclists indicating the very dangerous, uneven and unfinished surfaces. How is this allowed?

When are councillors and “consultants” going to actually come to the table and explain how and why this has happened? Also make assurances as to the rest of the works?

In addition, out of the 16 street lights in the crescent, seven haven’t been functioning for over two months.

Could our local representatives at least perhaps deal with this as there seems to be no maintenance programme at all?

Also actually discuss with us what kind of trees and shrubbery will be in the abandoned squiggles (Currently being used for burying bones by the foxes.)
