How can one switch from one surgery to another?

‘Is this what Boris Johnson really means by his ‘Save the NHS’ slogan?’

• WE are not alone in having our surgeries sold off to profit-making companies (see https://weownit.org.uk/act-now/stop-sell-49-gp-practices).

The Brunswick Health Centre has been in a serious state of decline since the last time it was sold to a private company.

For years it has had a huge banner in the window proclaiming it was now registering new NHS patients. Of course it is. It is paid by the number of patients it has on its books.

However, there is no promise to provide decent health care. My question is how does one change to another (and independent) surgery?

A few years ago I tried to “unstick” myself from the centre only to be told by other local surgeries that their books were full, I didn’t qualify as I was already registered with a local GP, or I was not in their catchment area.

Is this what Boris Johnson really means by his “Save the NHS” slogan? (See Brexit bus and subsequent, frequent, commands.)
