• OVER the year, it is key workers who have kept our country going, none more so than NHS staff.

We came together to clap for our carers and key workers every Thursday. As moving as this was, claps alone are not reward enough – they deserve fair pay, and a fair pay rise that recognises their service.

That is why it has been so shocking to see the chancellor offering just a 1 per cent pay rise to NHS staff.

With inflation, this will effectively be a pay cut for millions of health workers, three-quarters of whom are women. What a way to mark International Women’s Day this week.

I will keep campaigning for a proper, fair pay rise for those who have worked so hard for us at the most difficult of times.
