Camden street style #29: White leggings, white shawl, white coat
Monday, 20th October 2014

Lewis Jones, originally from Cardiff, is studying cultural and creative industries at City University. He is wearing a furry coat from Topshop over a patterned shirt from Urban Outfitters, with black skinny jeans, shoes from Zara, sparkly socks, a fedora hat from ASOS and a Celine bag. The 21-year-old said usually he opts for “monochrome” and “minimalism” in his outfits.
The rocker who goes by the name of Freddie Vintage was spotted outside Camden Guitars this week, sporting a 1970s-inspired outfit. The 27-year-old musician, who is part of a band called Duchess is wearing some bargain jeans that cost just £2 from a car boot sale in Pimlico, brown Italian boots and a purple patterned jacket from a charity shop in Camden Road. As well as being a musician, Freddie holds a fashion degree, which he put to good use by sewing his own top made of floral silk Versace fabric. Freddie said that he usually gets changed four times during a gig that lasts just 30 minutes, when on stage with his band playing 1970s style heavy rock.
Ella Brasington, 18, shared her best bit of fashion advice: “Avoid mustard… very few people can pull it off”. The waitress from Brighton wears a video-game inspired mushroom T-shirt from Camden market, a black skater skirt from River Island with a pair of tights, purple Converse trainers, a leather jacket from Primark and an old white bag. She said: “My style is quite random, I just pick lots of different things that I like and hope I don't look like a bag lady.”
Meesha Turner, 24, a PA living in Ruislip stands out in her vibrant vintage blue jacket, which she wears with a black top from H&M, a pastel skirt from from Primark and boots from Office. She has accessorised with a black bag and a statement necklace from New Look. Meesha said she is all about bargain hunting and sale shopping, and is happy to rifle through the rails to find something good.
Sunmi Yong, 26, who lives in Berlin is on holiday exploring London. Her clothes come from all over the world; the matryoshka tote bag was a present from Russia and the colourful jacket was gifted to her by a friend in Korea. She wears these statement items with a simple red jumper from H&M over a white top, a pair of black leggings from a market and black plimsolls. Her necklace is in fact a Danish coin, which she received as a tip whilst waitressing and decided to put on a chain. Her best bit of style advice is to wear one colourful statement piece to brighten up your outfit, as she has done.
Elke, a professional character model, is originally from Germany but has lived in Camden Town for over 20 years. Dressed all in white, she has chosen leggings from American Apparel with leg warmers, a shawl from a 99p store, two dresses over each other from markets in Camden, and a coat from Germany on top. Her boots were a find on Amazon, and she has accessorised with plenty of jewellery, including beaded necklaces and rings from Pylones in Carnaby Street. She said: "I have only been modelling for a few years. A friend of mine made me go to this audition and I lined up and had my picture taken and at the end they said: 'We would like to take some more pictures of you'. That's how it happened. I love Camden. Sometimes it can be a nuisance because it can seem like everybody knows me. They come up and say, 'Oh hi, I have seen you here before' and I want to say 'Sorry, I have never seen you.'"
