Reece from Kentish Town, said: “In year 7, I set up a charity day for the Children's Liver Disease Foundation. It started off as something just in our year, but then it grew to the whole school, it just got bigger and bigger. It just made me focus. It made me realised I can do this, it made me want to achieve more, so I started achieving. Everyone, since then has been so supportive of me. I was still battling liver disease when I came into sixth form so it was quite hard, but I managed to get into the uni of Brighton.”

Haverstock students Aminatta Sylva, Nattanon Amornrattanasereegul and Daniel Pashei compare results
Aspiring journalist Aminatta Sylva, also from Haverstock, is one step closer to her dream after securing her place at Sussex University, with two Bs and a C grade. She said she has “grown a lot,” to get through two of the “hardest” but most “exciting” years, leading up to today.
She said: “It has been two or three months of sleeping at 1am. I was not on Instagram for about two months, I even signed out of Snapchat. I just switched off my phone to get into my work, but I did it, its crazy.' Inspired by her granddad who was a journalist in Gambia, Aminatta hopes to one day become a writer and “deliver the truth to people.”

Many Regent High School students opted for vocational BTEC subjects as an alternative to A-levels. Headteacher Rosemary Leeke praised the students, many of whom “exceeded their own expectations,” but singled out a particular group who sat the triple science BTEC. She said: “All of them have achieved straight Distinction *s right across the board, so that is the equivalent of three grade As at A-level, for the whole class. They are going on to some fantastic degree courses as a result, whether its nursing which is incredibly competitive these days or social work or neuroscience."

For Kai Harvey, who is going to volunteer in Japan during his gap year before university, his decision to focus on his work paid off today when he saw his grades, which included a distinction in business BTEC. He said: “In my younger years I wasn't very well behaved at all but when I got to year nine I decided to focus on my school work and it all got easier from there. When I got to year nine I realised the decisions I make now are going to start affecting my life in the future, so I should start behaving better than I was.”
