A man, a banana, and a beagle bite

• MANY readers will have heard or read about the seal by the Thames in Hammersmith which was attacked by an off-the-lead dog, resulting in the seal being so badly injured that it had to be put down by vets.
Nearer home, I was walking on Primrose Hill on Tuesday morning and witnessed a beagle attack a man sitting on a seat at the top of the hill.
The man was eating a banana and in going for the banana the dog bit the man on the hand, causing a nasty bleed which was still bleeding some minutes later.
The dog owner arrived then and took the dog off. She said “it doesn’t usually do that”. I offered to be a witness but the man didn’t think he would take it further. I sincerely hope he suffers no lasting effects.
Can this be a lesson to all dog owners that they should keep their dogs on leads whenever there are other people about?
