Why our experience at the Odeon screening was a dark matter

• I WONDER if anyone else who has been to the Camden Town Odeon has wished they had brought a torch.
When we entered the auditorium where Victoria and Abdul was about to begin and the door closed behind us it was so dark – and remained so dark – that we were rooted to the spot until after several minutes, in which we probably made quite a rumpus as we discussed what to do, a kind stranger (who turned out to be the only other person at that mid-afternoon showing) came to our rescue with some device which emitted a faint glow.
I realise that providing lighting for three people is expensive, but no lighting is dangerous and, by a wonderful irony, the last time we went to a film in this Odeon, they forgot to turn the lights off when the film began and instead of two old people teetering at the top of the steps, you had quite a crowd yelling for the Odeon staff to get their act together.
