What the Green Party can offer Gospel Oak and Camden
Thursday, 13th April 2017
• THE May 4 Gospel Oak by-election comes at an important time for Camden where the ruling Labour group has clearly run out of steam.
Nationally Labour is fighting itself and locally this means a council that lacks solutions to our borough’s problems and, crucially, the major issues facing Gospel Oak.
It’s shocking that Labour reduced the number of homes within reach of ordinary people in the Bacton redevelopment, when residents are crying out for somewhere they can afford to live.
Meanwhile Camden allows Gospel Oak’s children to go to school on roads that have illegal levels of air pollution. And the once-vibrant Queen’s Crescent Market has been left to decline thanks to council mismanagement.
Green councillor Siân Berry recently challenged Camden on unfair council tax charges for our poorest residents and for building lower percentages of new council homes in their big developments than even their own policies demand.
Camden needs a Green councillor in Gospel Oak. It won’t change the balance of power in the council, but it will give a stronger voice to those ignored by the current administration and generate fresh ideas to help weather the storm of national Tory cuts.
Greens would work tirelessly to represent Gospel Oak if elected on May 4.
