We need the CNJ to continue Eric's mantle as a true independent voice for the people

• WE would like to extend our condolences to the family and staff who worked with Eric Gordon, (Eric Gordon: Tributes to Camden’s great chronicler as founder and editor of CNJ dies at 89, April 8).

He led the CNJ to become a truly independent voice.

He wrote often about the dangers of untrammelled development in Somers Town. We rely on the CNJ to express the views of those left behind.

Eric was erudite, well informed, diligent in differentiating facts from opinion, and had a genuine curiosity about people.

I remember him ringing me for opinions late and ending up talking about China and investigating my parents’ experience of post-war Poland.

We will feel the loss of this keenly in Somers Town. We need the CNJ to continue his mantle as a true independent voice for the people.
