We need an update on Marchmont Street and Tavistock Place work
Thursday, 16th May 2024
Open letter to Cllr Adam Harrison, Cabinet Member for a Sustainable Camden
• PLEASE can you update local residents concerning the current plans for building and roadworks in Marchmont Street and Tavistock Place, WC1?
We were previously informed (September 13 2023) that carriage works would be completed by the end of February 2024.
We are now halfway through May. And recent public notices in the CNJ suggest that the road and pavement works are only just getting started…
Meanwhile Egmont House is being loudly rebuilt every working day (including Saturday mornings) since January 3.
The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine redevelopment (part two) – a mere 50 metres from Egmont House – seems to be kicking off again.
And we also have the new hotel development in the basement of the Brunswick Centre to look forward to.
Residents seem to be expected to put up with near constant noise and disruption apparently stretching endlessly into the future.
If we are indeed a “cumulative impact area”, why is work permitted on Saturday mornings?
None of these projects is an emergency matter of life and death.
My carer Tim came to talk with you about my concerns at your surgery of October 6.
My open letter to local councillors was published in the CNJ on January 4 2024. But nothing changes. In fact the noise and disruption just seems to get worse.
So I ask again, what are the plans for Marchmont Street and Tavistock Place? Or is it just a free-for-all?
JAMES CURRAN
