They bombard us with noise and disruption

From an open letter to Bloomsbury ward councillors

• FURTHER to my email, please find [detailed] below a list of major works and building projects currently proposed for our small, primarily residential, neighbourhood of Marchmont Street and Tavistock Place over the next two years.

Can we agree that this list is correct, based on information currently in the public domain?

But is it complete? I dread to ask…

This suggests that over the next two years residents will be bombarded with works and building noise every weekday, pretty much constantly, sometimes from more than one project at a time.

All of these projects are within earshot of where I have lived for more than 30 years. I am a cancer patient currently receiving care in my home from National Health Service district nurses and rapid response teams.

So it is ironic that while the NHS is working to care for me in my home, Camden-approved works projects will be bombarding me with noise and disruption.

So I ask again (rhetorically?) what consideration, if any, is ever given to the health and wellbeing of local residents and their right to quiet enjoyment of their homes? Aren’t we supposed to live in a “Cumulative Impact Area”?

And now we are informed that the neighbourhood will be closed off on Monday January 15 for commercial filming by Park Pictures, involving the installation of a crane! This is insane.
