Underdog has his day! Shaz in pool final
Thursday, 7th February 2019 — By Steve Barnett
KING’S Cross Hurricane Shaz Khan is waiting to find out who will be standing between him and a singles crown after he stormed into the final on Monday night.
More than 120 players entered the chase to win the Chalk Farm Pool League’s prestigious competition at the start of the season – and now there are just four left standing.
Khan would surely have been ranked as the underdog when he saw his semi-final opponent was Simon Wild, the man who earlier in the night knocked out reigning singles champion Chris Heim. And it looked as if Wild, who plays for Boston OldSkool, was heading for the final when he took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five-frames showdown at the Hurricane Room in King’s Cross.
But Khan battled back to level the scores. In the decider he then took full advantage of an unforced error as he used his two-shot advantage to calmly clear the table and seal a 3-2 victory.
Khan will now wait to see which of Danny Fry, Mark Piercey and Nick Campbell play their way to the final on the other side of the draw.
