Tory cuts affect the cleanliness of our streets

rubbish letter

• WE’VE noticed that Conservative candidates in Frognal & Fitzjohns seem to have a knack of finding rubbish on the street and tweeting about it.

It seems to be beyond their capability to report the rubbish to the council and get it cleared.

We want to draw to their attention to the free-to-download “Clean Camden” app which allows any resident to report rubbish and get it removed within 24 hours, although usually within two to three hours.

We take street cleanliness very seriously and want to see an end to residents having to face the blight of fly-tipping.

Local Conservatives know as well as everyone else that any worsening of street cleanliness is a result of the austerity cuts their government has forced on Camden.

Owing to Conservative government funding cuts Camden have had to reduce their budget by £171million, from 2011 to 2019.

They still need to find another £24million in savings by 2019. Government funding makes up the majority of Camden’s budget.

On a positive note, since April 2017 a Labour-led council has increased recycling in the borough by 11 per cent. We have no doubt the local Conservatives will rightly applaud Camden Labour for this achievement.
