They should blame the clay not the trees for subsidence

tree stump - letter-wilson

Healthy tree cut down in Constantine Road near South End Green

• I TOO have subsidence – what’s new here – and the tree is actually in front of my neighbour’s house not mine, (Aggressive insurance companies are costing us trees, August 11).

The company involved have been taking measurements for months and have told me the cracks have widened suddenly, hardly the fault of the tree. But one might blame the London clay.

We are losing our lovely trees and replacements shed their fruits (mini-pears) on the pavement; hazardous for pedestrians.
