Aggressive insurance companies are costing us trees

Healthy tree cut down in Constantine Road near South End Green
• THERE is every likelihood that the tree referred to by John Wilson was cut down because an adjacent property suffered subsidence, (Why cut down this tree? August 4).
When this happens the first action by aggressive insurance companies is to write to the council demanding that the tree be cut down regardless of whether it is responsible or not.
Struggling councils comply rather than face legal costs or future damages. In particular where the problem relates to movement of a gable end the tree is unlikely to be the culprit.
But I know of no organisation prepared to challenge this negative policy which just adds to the problem of global warming and sadly see little chance of a change of policy.
