There’s silence about the coming chaos!
Thursday, 5th October 2023
• YOUR correspondent Simon Pearson (Bridge and road trouble ahead, September 28) is right to draw attention to the disruption that seems to be coming again to traffic and travel in Kentish Town.
The bridge work planned by Network Rail and being carried out by contractor BAM is happening while the Underground station is closed and bus stops are being closed or moved. This will impact all buses and make pedestrian access more difficult.
The silence from Camden Council and local councillors, who surely could have brought about discussion between Transport for London and Network Rail, is very worrying. They rightly protested about one bus stop but this major disruption seems to have escaped them.
The independent traders are seriously affected already by the tube station closure and now the inevitable delay to buses and impact on the Thameslink trains will discourage people from trying to use shops and services in Kentish Town.
Simon Pearson described the poorly-attended and advertised meeting which just described what is going to happen and has denied any meaningful response, protest, or alternative plan.
The council needs to step up to protect our high street, our traders, and all residents who need to travel through Kentish Town.
