There is a threat to St Stephen’s Church
Thursday, 6th April 2017

• NOT only is the proposed Pears Building development out of all proportion to the site and the surroundings, but the way it has been handled is without parallel in terms of local authority potential abuse of power (Royal Free and neighbouring church in unholy row about tower’s stability, March 30).
The potential damage to St Stephen’s Church and the school is very apparent and the effect on the groundwater movements is a real risk. None of this seems to have any effect on Camden Council’s decision-making.
It seems to me that the council have made up their mind to approve the application regardless of any professional reports or warnings.
That could lead to any number of legal actions.
There are many more issues to be raised here such as the disruption to pedestrian and road traffic during the works and afterwards, and the additional pollution.
We are already living in one of London’s worst-polluted boroughs.
I am also surprised that a registered charity is prepared to act in such an uncaring way. This does not bode well for future charitable support from the public.
Please throw out this application and consider much more carefully any subsequent applications.
