Gavin Williamson in Kilburn

Gavin Williamson

• THE local Tories invited chief whip Gavin Williamson to Hampstead and Kilburn, as you reported (Tories determined to follow ‘get Corbyn’ strategy, May 4), and it seems he was
told to mention Jeremy Corbyn in response to every question asked during your interview.

But instead of striking a blow against the Labour Party Mr Williamson simply confirmed that the Conservatives have no interest in working to tackle local poverty.

When asked about food banks and their soaring use in Camden, he replied “the best way to get people away from using food banks… is about creating jobs”. Are the Tories aware that in-work poverty is at a record high, with around 3.8million workers currently living in poverty?

In their poor understanding of issues from food poverty to education cuts, the local Tories continue to show that they have no answers for the challenges faced by Hampstead and Kilburn residents.
