Statistics used for Swiss Cottage School report gave a misleading picture

Thursday, 2nd March 2017

• YOUR report (Protest at the gates over Swiss Cottage School academy switch plan, February 23) was grossly misleading – “survey revealed a huge majority of parents, teachers and support staff opposing the move”.

By the selective use of statistics you have created a totally false picture. The facts are that out of 230 parents just 25 voted no; out of 61 Camden head teachers, two voted no; out of 27 teachers, 12 voted no; out of a leadership team of 20, two voted no; and out of 138 support staff, 55 noted no.

Where is the “huge majority” against, that your article suggested other than in the misuse of figures by Unison who, I assume, supplied you with the information.
I thought it was the editor’s duty to check data before publication.

The governors, when making their decision to apply to convert to an academy, based their decision solely on the interests of Swiss Cottage pupils, staff and the many SEN children in Camden we have to turn away for lack of places.

Their needs come before political expediency.
