‘Speed restrictions are often inconsistent and illogical’

• THE current speed restrictions are often inconsistent and illogical.

Apart from the 20mph speed limit at the non-residential part of Finchley Road there is another example at Spaniards Road.

The limit along this straight road bordered by Hampstead Heath is 20mph. As it approaches the Spaniards Inn, the boundary between Camden and Barnet, it increases to 30mph.

This is the most dangerous part of the road, where it becomes very narrow and pedestrians often cross from the bus stop to the inn.

Thereafter there is an adverse camber, the road is winding, and there is the junction with Winnington Road not controlled by traffic lights. This is the scene of many traffic collisions.

The only explanation for this ridiculous inconsistency appears to be regulations in the different boroughs. But this is not a proper reason.
