Robbers – but no cops

Police hat

Policing priorities matter

• THE other day, at a store in Swiss Cottage, I witnessed a very unpleasant incident of the shop staff trying to restrain a shoplifter.

They suffered verbal and physical abuse and let him leave. Apparently he is a regular “customer”.

When I asked why they didn’t report him to the police and ask for help they said to do so was pointless as they never came to their aid.

Meanwhile, officers have time to hide behind vehicles on Hampstead Lane with radar guns and catch people exceeding the speed limit by two or three miles per hour.

Wouldn’t the police be better employed patrolling Swiss Cottage as a deterrent rather than catching drivers who are usually law-abiding citizens but who momentarily took their eye off their speedometer?
