Residents voted to pull down this estate

Thursday, 16th July 2020

• I WRITE as chair of West Kentish Town Estate Tenant’s and Residents Association and as a member of the regeneration steering group to strongly refute what Tom Muirhead has said, (This estate ‘regeneration’ idea is inappropriate, July 9).

First, residents voted with an overwhelming 95 per cent to pull down this estate because it has very many things wrong with it.

We do not want to be spruced up, thank you very much.

“In the plan” he says! I assure you there is no plan.

We have not even engaged the architects yet. There are no drawings, misleading or otherwise.

I can only assume that he has seen the impression of what the estate could look like used in what was the best run consultation exercise we have ever had.

I can assure you all that no one on this estate is going to be “confined into a large block built round a noisy courtyard”.

And how dare you suggest we are severely deprived.

This estate is full of hard working, responsible, and intelligent people who are being given the chance of a good modern home, on a new estate that we will help design. What may I ask is wrong with that?

If you think we cannot achieve this you obviously know nothing about us or our history.

JILL FRASER,
NW5
