Residents can judge risks for themselves

Thursday, 29th June 2017

• EACH year, nearly 2,000 people in the UK are killed on roads, 600 from falls on stairs and 200 from drowning.

Should we compel people to abandon roads, never to use stairs and to stay clear of rivers, lakes and seas? After Grenfell Tower, Camden is right to make facilities available for worried people to leave homes that are exposed to fire-risks.

But it is surely wrong to compel people to do this if they appreciate the risks. Some may judge that the chaos of boarding, affecting family life, education and work, far exceeds the teeny risk of fire, however horrendous.
