Santander bike hire: ‘It’s quite possible to spend £79.20 throughout a 24-hour period if you hired every 30 minutes’ [Tiia Monto CC 3.0 detail]

• IN response to the letter (Bike charge is too high, September 7) about the Santander hire, they are the most expensive product per day, more than any other Transport for London product, being £1.65 for each 30 minutes.

Whereas before it was like a game trying to find another bike station to put your bike back into and get another one before the 30 minutes was up, it’s now quite possible to spend £79.20 throughout a 24-hour period if you hired every 30 minutes.

They should go back to the original prices or have a reasonable day charge. Current charges work for visitors, though not as a resource for many older people who would use the bikes to get about. I’ve written to TfL many times to tell them about this but, of course, with no response.
