Centrist Dads in action in York Rise [Alice Horsley]
• FOR those who live in the streets affected, the York Rise street party has become an event to put in your calendar, (Peston plays the punk at summer street party, September 14).
We planned to be out of town that day. Our housebound neighbours were less fortunate; they had to endure a drinks bar and a sound system outside their door for hours on end.
Their reports were of sun-struck British people the worse for drink: Benidorm comes to NW5.
The massed ranks of portable loos must have been busy. We got home to hear the Veolia vans still crunching the rubbish well after midnight.
Maybe next year, following the Alma Street party example, the event can be scaled down. We hope that it can be unplugged as well, so that we can enjoy the music of conversation.
The Centrist Dads have a year to learn some quieter songs.
