Our capital city is becoming unlivable

• WHATEVER Stephen Daldry and his neighbours experienced (The planning system is a hall of mirrors designed to mislead, July 13), my neighbours and myself experienced similarly with Camden Council a couple of weeks before.
Both “his” King’s Cross warehouse and “my” Camden Centric Close warehouses are being knocked down for offices and housing. Maybe our two dissenting groups should link up.
London is having so much construction in terms of infrastructure and housing, why are we making London even more the centre of Britain, when it is higher up the country and the north that needs growth along with manufacturing? There are empty buildings used for investment in London galore, taking up valuable space.
I have to ask the council’s permission to change a window or trim my tree, and yet the council and government can cut down wonderful oxygen-giving trees, en masse, and destroy an area by constructing completely incongruous new buildings – a case of Cinderella’s slipper just not fitting the conservation or listed area’s foot.
The only conclusion I can arrive at is that, with government cuts, the council makes much-needed money and the politicians keep the construction companies and their investors happy.
Between the extremely high pollution, the constant bad side-effects from construction absolutely everywhere in London now, and these ugly blocks in the middle of elegant terraces, London will not be the place to live in any more. It is becoming unlivable!
