A BOOK about Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe’s time in prison in Iran and the campaign led by her husband Richard to free her will be published next year.

Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe, 43, was freed in March this year after nearly six years in prison following her arrest on spurious spying charges while visiting family in 2016.

Her case was tied to a long-running debt owed by the UK to Iran over an order for tanks which was never fulfilled by the British government after the Iranian revolution saw the overthrow of the Shah in 1979.

Mr Ratcliffe campaigned for his wife’s release with hunger strikes and marches.

Ms Zaghari-Ratcliffe said: “Every single one of us has a story to tell. My story as a hostage is unique, but it is also the story of many other women in Iran in prison who are unknown but have helped me enormously to go through this journey and come out of it stronger.”

She added: “My story is a story of my own uncertainty, fear, faith, survival, hope and love but also the story of unity and solidarity from so many others. Their struggles continue today.”

Mr Ratcliffe said: “Six years on our story feels like a discovery of the darker sides of governments, and of the kinder sides of people, but also across all the twists and turns simply how we survived.

“It took a village to get Nazanin home. I am really glad we have a happy ending to share.”
