Make sure our secondary schools have decent buildings and facilities

Thursday, 6th April 2017

• MANY thanks to the Tories in Highgate for highlighting our support for Camden Council’s investment in Parliament Hill and William Ellis schools.

We were very surprised to read in their letter in the New Journal (School work – think again, March 30) that the aspiring Tory councillors for Highgate oppose the investment plans and say that the new classrooms and science laboratories should not be built at Parliament Hill School – and that Camden should pull its £35million investment.

If that were to happen we would soon be having students taught in Portakabins as many of the current buildings are not fit for purpose.

This at the same time as the Tory government’s new funding formula for schools will mean almost a £1million cut to Parliament Hill School’s budget and millions more from other local schools.

That is what we oppose and we believe parents and residents in Highgate oppose funding cuts too.

But most people like us welcome the Labour council’s commitment to do all they can to make sure our secondary schools have decent facilities and buildings so our local students can achieve to the maximum.
