Make cyclists stop and wait for bus passengers

‘The idea of placing cycle lanes between bus stops and pavements is indeed crass and senseless’
• I TOTALLY agree with Peter Mair (Curb cyclists at bus stops, August 18) and Diana Bradford (My car now seems the safest bet, August 25) – the idea of placing cycle lanes between bus stops and pavements is indeed “crass and senseless”.
Who on Earth came up with this potentially lethal concept?
Several times, alighting from the No 46 bus at the Ivor Street stop, I have been almost knocked down by a cyclist hurtling past, seemingly too stupid, or too indifferent, to think that a stopped bus might be disgorging passengers.
I very much hope that these idiotic danger points will soon be eliminated.
In the meantime, though, a suggestion: five yards before every bus stop adjoining a cycle lane, a sign on the lane reading: “If a bus has halted here, stop and wait”.
Some will ignore it, of course. But it might just prevent a few nasty accidents.
