Cycle lane and a bus stop

A cycle lane and a bus stop… ‘a senseless idea’

• PETER Mair’s letter (Curb cyclists at bus stops, August 18) echoes the problem I had with a cyclist while trying to board a bus at the very same bus stop north-bound upper park road on Haverstock Hill.

The bus was slowing down for me to get on, however a cyclist was fast approaching up the hill in the cycle lane. As I tried to cross over the cycle path to get on to the bus he speeded up knocked into me and raced on!

The bus driver did not see this and naturally closed the doors as I didn’t board the bus. So I had a bit of a scare and missed the bus.

I have been trying to use the excellent local buses, leaving my car at home, but since this incident I am changing my mind thinking my car is the safest travel bet.

Also I have noticed while sitting at the bus stop that very few cyclists use the cycle lane. They much prefer to stay on the road.

Whoever thought up this crass senseless idea of incorporating a cycle lane running alongside a bus stop where the passenger has to make the dangerous decision when alighting or boarding a bus needs their head examined!

Is it too late to campaign against this?
