Labour should reconsider these deselections
Thursday, 9th December 2021
• THE deselection of Roger Robinson and Paul Tomlinson as prospective candidates for the upcoming council elections is both unacceptable and a failure to reflect the esteem and respect in which they are held by the community in Somers Town, (The big purge? Councillor who spoke out against new skyscraper on green space is deselected by Labour, December 2).
Moreover Paul has consistently raised the issues surrounding the proposed developments currently taking place in Camley Street; and that monstrosity “that is currently being constructed on a green field site near Coopers Lane”.
Both Roger and Paul have faithfully served the working class communities in this area and are unstinting in their respective loyalty and devotion to the service and wellbeing of all their constituents.
Is it a case of “not being one of us” to parody the rumoured comment purportedly ascribed to that hero of Tory mythology, Margaret Thatcher?
Or, more to the point, is it a case of not being compliant with the orthodox conventions which have recently taken root in the Labour Party, that is, not subscribing to the so-called values and beliefs of middle class “incomers” who, in my estimation, are “playing” the system in order to advance their own political ambitions to be aspirant (wannabe?) MPs?
I strongly urge the Labour Party to reconsider this blatantly flawed decision.
