Join the picnic in Euston Square Gardens on Saturday July 8
Thursday, 6th July 2017
• IT was tremendously sad on Wednesday June 28 for the gates of St James Gardens (in Cardington Street to the immediate west of Euston station) to be locked for ever and three acres of ancient meadow latterly used as a burial ground possessed by High Speed Two, and over 60 splendid trees due to be felled. Even more trees will be chopped down in surrounding streets.
There will be a final interfaith (including no faith as well) farewell service on the morning of Wednesday August 23, please let us know if you wish to attend: office@stpancraschurch.org.
Both St James Gardens and Euston Square Gardens are in the parish of St Pancras Parish Church which is opposite the fire station on Euston Road, diagonally opposite the station.
We are planning to open the churchyard as gardens for people to use, as by the autumn Euston Square Gardens will also be locked to the public and 50 trees felled.
Those gardens are due to be returned after 17 years, though Camden Council were talking of building tower blocks on the south corners back in March.
So this summer let us enjoy our remaining garden one last time and celebrate National Fields Day with a picnic in Euston Square Gardens on Saturday July 8 between 2pm and 5pm.
Bring your picnic, family, neighbours and friends and appreciate the greenery of the trees before they too are gone forever.
Many people plan to bring more scarves to tie around the trees as our sign of regret they will be cut down. At 4pm those who wish can go up to St James Gardens to see the HS2 hoardings.
