John Gulliver referred to us as the old guard – we are not

Thursday, 2nd November 2017

• WE’RE writing to you as new Labour Party members in Holborn & St Pancras as well as recently elected new officers to the constituency party.

In John Gulliver’s October 26 article (Momentum lack momentum at the Town Hall) we were quite surprised to see ourselves described as the “old guard”, particularly as we are all new delegates, who only became members of the Labour Party in the past two years, and are all aged between 24 and 33.

In addition, of the 11 positions elected, eight went to new officers. We certainly don’t think that constitutes “old guard” in any sense.

We are proud to have been elected at the October AGM after focusing on the power of young people, the importance of inclusive, open, politics and an optimistic enthusiasm about the future of our party and the incredible potential for our community and country when a Labour government comes to power.

We don’t believe your article accurately represented the tone or facts of our election and feel it’s only right that we speak up to that effect.

We are a passionate, young, energetic new team and are all really looking forward to working with everyone in the local party and local area to ensure that Labour is in the best possible position to support our diverse and vibrant local community.

We are stronger together, as a party and as a community, and with local elections coming up in the borough we can’t wait to get out on the doorstep and spread a message of hope for the future – for the many, not just for the few.
