‘Sainsbury’s is now a stressful shopping dystopia’
• THANKS for reporting Camden Sainsbury’s replacement of tills and humans with self-checkouts, (Plea to Sainsbury’s: ‘Give us humans back on checkout’, September 7).
Sainsbury’s is now a stressful shopping dystopia. It has excluded customer groups and many people have lost valuable human contact.
Research is now showing being part of a community and interacting with others is the most important factor in living a long life, above diet and exercise.
We all need to give and receive love with other humans to survive. Sainsbury’s have destroyed a warm, friendly community shopping experience for many.
I’ve got nothing against self-checkout technology if I have a handful of items and am in a rush. But I personally can no longer do the big shop I used to do every few weeks as it’s too stressful balancing items in the space, trying to pack and do the scanning job which was formerly providing employment for a second human (which I am now doing unpaid instead).
After 20 years I am no longer shopping at Sainsbury’s but have moved to Morrisons where I was served by a friendly, helpful, human being. There is no price on this.
