• FOR the past few weeks the two smoke alarms in our communal corridor have been plaintively squeaking to alert us of their fading batteries.

After calling Camden Council I was amazed to learn that they only install smoke alarms but have no mandate to maintain them. So no one would not come out and change the batteries.

If I can borrow a ladder I’ll change them myself but I wonder how many Camden residents are under the false impression that their building fire safety is comprehensively managed when there is such a gaping flaw in the council’s policy?
