Hard-pressed tenants and Camden deserve better

• I’VE written about Camden’s frustrated and despairing tenants turning to me, the chair of the Holborn and St Pancras Conservatives, when they have felt let down by their elected representatives, all Labour.

This week I heard from a tenant who pointed out in horror the charge for his communal heating, hot water and gas has risen from £25 to £57 per week. This is on top of his rent to Camden and electricity charges: an increase of 125 per cent.

He adds there is no way to measure his actual consumption and, indeed, he has not used his heating since the spring. Yet the charge is due every week regardless.

“It is eating up a large chunk of money, especially for pensioners,” he quite reasonably points out. How can this possibly be right? Camden deserves better.
