FIREFIGHTERS were at one of Camden Town’s most popular pubs this afternoon (Monday).

Crews put out a kitchen fire at the Edinboro Castle in Mornington Terrace. Staff and a tenant in a flat above the bar left the building safely.

There was minimal damage reported and the bar re-opened soon afterwards.

The pub’s name historically comes from an attempt to segregate 19th century railway workers in Camden. While Scottish navvies headed to the Edinboro Castle, the Irish wen to the Dublin Castle in Parkway, the Welsh drank in the Pembroke Castle in Primrose Hill and the English had the Windsor Castle, which was also in Parkway but closed down many years ago.

The old Caernarvon Castle in Camden High Street – which burned down in the Camden fire of 2007 – was not part of the original set.
