Camden’s track record on health and safety is woeful

Residents protest outside Bray tower on the Chalcots estate

• COUNCILLOR Meric Apak states that they are delivering to Chalcots residents on health and safety by having an independently reviewed and approved model that sees a full risk assessment completed in each resident home before work commences, (Angry tenants in demo outside estate, June 1).

We need to know who it is that is doing this, what’s involved (including noise pollution assessments), and what are the results of the investigations, prior to any work proceeding in any of our homes.

Sorry, but we are not prepared to take Camden Council’s word on this as we only find ourselves in this situation because of lack of health and safety in the past.

Their track record is woeful to say the least as we all remember being evacuated due to them commissioning flammable cladding to be fitted previously.

We need transparency and openness in all health and safety matters. Let us actually see, in writing, the actual reports.

Lastly the council is not really honest when saying that completion of replacement takes two to four weeks, as that is for windows being fitted only; and even then some homes are taking longer.

What they have forgotten to include is the new radiators, electric window, possible new fuse box, etc. The list is long.

When did the works begin? November 2022. And the number of actual homes completed fully – 21 – an average of three homes per month.

Scheduled date for the first two tower blocks’ completion is December 2023. I leave it to your readers to work out the math, as there are over 300 homes.

All the figures, by the way, are supplied by the Camden project team. It will be interesting how they will spin the delay in completion time and extra costs.

Let’s wait and see.
