Any future government must commit to taking action on the disability pay gap

Thursday, 4th May 2017

• NEW figures produced for Being Disabled in Britain, a major review of disability inequality by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, show that in England disabled employees’ median hourly earnings fell by 9.5 per cent against a drop of 1.3 per cent for non-disabled employees during the five years of the coalition government.

The decrease was even higher for those with mental health conditions and visual impairments, with a fall of 14.2 per cent for both. This is a shameful state of affairs.

We call on any future government to regularly publish data on the disability pay gap and to investigate and take action urgently to address the factors affecting the gap.
