Anti- this or that? We need legal definitions
Thursday, 12th October 2017
• YOUR anonymous correspondent accuses John Gulliver of anti-Semitism (Gulliver is an anti-Semite, October 5).
But what we can all take from it is that he or she does not understand the difference between being anti-Jewish, anti-Semite, anti-Zionist, anti-Netanyahu or anti-Israeli.
And he or she is not to be blamed. Nobody does. This needs to be rectified with agreed and legally rigorous definitions which may well be used for criminal action.
However if one looks back to the original article (Fringe meeting of the day, but was I the only reporter there? September 28), it is clear that John Gulliver’s comment can hardly amount to a declaration of hate against all Jews worldwide.
