Another green rail corridor?

• MUCH of the opposition to the proposals for replacing the currently unused Overground railway line from Camden to King’s Cross/St Pancras has come from residents whose properties will be visible to people walking the Camden Highline.
If my experience of walking from Finsbury Park to Alexandra Palace along what is known as Parkland Walk is anything to go by they can rest easy.
Traversing this proved to be a unique experience, it was like going down a very long tunnel with green walls lit by a pale glow of sunlight filtering through leaves and branches.
The only sounds were from rabbits and birds, both of which remained hidden in what had become one step removed from a jungle.
The trees and bushes had continued to grow profusely (no pollution?) so that only a traveller equipped with garden shears would be able to cut away some of the quite dense wall of foliage all along the route.
Occasionally it proved possible to get a really impressive bird’s eye view of north London, though the height above ground was such that all that could be seen in respect of human habitation were roof tops and gardens looking not much larger than postage stamps.
So, given time and a readiness to let nature take its course, we could have another green corridor to travel along, albeit shorter, but still a very worthwhile experience.
